The Mute Swan is not native to North America. All of the Mute Swans in North America descended from swans imported from Europe from the mid 1800s through early 1900s.
This particular Mute Swan, named Katie, first showed up in Dallas around 2013. This is an anomaly since they are situated in the upper North, lower Great Lakes area. They are considered an invasive species by the US Fish and Wildlife Service. They double in population every seven to eight years. They are still a beautiful and magnificent bird to see in the wild and especially when flying. I will try to get pictures of that. I have one of it as it was landing but way to fuzzy to post.
